Ball Flight Shape

A bullet discharging from the muzzle of a rifle desires ‘Stability and Shape’. We have physical ways of affecting ‘Golf Ball Control’. We have learned how to utilize our important tools to specific outcomes.

In golf we want to control ‘Trajectory, Parabola and Shape’. This involves ‘Three Axis Spin Rate’. When we want to alter ‘Clubhead Behaviour’ to change ‘Ball Flight Outcome’, it is prudent to alter ‘The Clubhead’ (Aim & Path) first and singularly. “Keep It Simple! Simplicity Solves Complexity!”

All our ‘555 Family’ are knowledgeable as to the ‘5 Set-Ups’ (Posture, Grip, Stance, Ball Location & Alignment). You also know ‘The 5 Essential Elements’ (Clubface Aim, Clubhead Path, Clubhead Speed, Sweet Spot and Angle Of Attack (AOA). The primary objective herein is again ‘Spin-Rate Control’, which controls ‘Orbital Velocity’. ‘Clubface Aim At The Moment Of Separation’ is a primary skill!

The factory produces ‘Specifications’. Loft comes in what we professionals refer to as ‘Loft Splits’. A common ‘Large Split’ is 8 degrees between the Pitching and Sand Wedges’. A ‘Full Swing Carry Distance’ between your #8 Iron and your # 9 Iron (normal split) might vary between 15 and 20 yards. We have to learn these yardages and apply them to the playing environment. (‘Know Your Bag’)

Your ‘Shaft Handle Position to Spinal Column Axis’ may be of interest. One may apply a ‘Forward, Neutral or Aft Press’. Each one of these conditions increases or decreases ‘Net Delivered Loft’. This directly affects ‘Ball Flight … Trajectory, Parabola and Angle Of Attack’.

It is worthy of note that ‘Leg Drive or Lower Body Thrust’ creates ‘Clubhead Lag Pressure’. This means that ‘Pivot Engine Power’ leads the ‘Sweet Spot’ down and outwardly to the ‘Impact Interval’ with the ball. Importantly, this ‘Lead & Lag’ phenomenon directly alters the ‘Net Delivered Loft’. Tour players may comfortably ‘De-Loft their Irons by as much as 12 to 20 degrees! This makes you think they just hit a 6 iron when it may have been a #9 Iron! There is enormous variety in their skilled hands!

‘Clubhead Velocity’ (Compression & Line Of Compression) affects ‘Ball Flight Shape’. A really firmly struck golf ball will fly farther and higher. It may also have more ‘Under-Spin’ transferred to it ‘Y Axis’.

Ball Location matters so ‘Be Aware’!
